Kestrel Wind’s Remarkable Year

09 December 2025

Kestrel Wind has experienced a whirlwind of achievements and growth over the past year. As we ushered in 2025, we “spread our wings” beyond South Africa's borders, much like our namesake bird, gracefully navigating the winds of opportunity and challenges that lay ahead. From innovative projects that demonstrated the resilience of our turbines to strengthening our international partnerships, Kestrel Wind faced each challenge with unwavering determination and elegance.

Key Achievements

Successful Turbine Installation at Van Reenen’s Pass

The year commenced with the successful installation of our turbines at Van Reenen’s Pass. This project showcased our commitment to providing reliable power to telecommunications towers, regardless of location, while highlighting the robustness of our micro-turbines. Renowned for its harsh weather conditions, Van Reenen’s Pass often experiences winds exceeding 90 km/h. While other turbines lasted only two weeks in this environment, our 400n turbine has been consistently operational since December 2023. This success has led to the procurement of 20 additional units for installation in Kenya, paving the way for exciting developments in 2026.

Strengthening Partnerships in Iceland

The beginning of 2025 also reinforced our collaboration with Icelandic companies Bláorka and SAMRÁS, both of which provide renewable energy solutions across Iceland. Known for its extreme wind speeds, occasionally reaching 234 km/h, and icy winters, Iceland has tested our turbines at various installation sites. Notably, one installation in Eastern Iceland has successfully supplied power to a telecommunications tower situated atop a 650-meter mountain.

Expanding International Footprint with Grundfos

This year has also seen Kestrel Wind broaden its international presence through a partnership with the Grundfos Group, a prominent international water pump manufacturer based in Denmark. In May 2024, we shipped our first container of e300i wind turbines and tower adaptors to Grundfos USA, designated for powering agricultural water pumps in Clarendon, Texas. Since January 2025, we have fulfilled an order for an additional 30 units, with further orders anticipated from Grundfos Australia in the near future.

Looking Ahead

This year has truly ignited excitement and promise within the Kestrel team. As we look forward to 2026, we assure our followers that even more thrilling installations and collaborations are on the horizon, placing South Africa’s renewable energy solutions in the spotlight. We are especially enthusiastic about our upcoming projects in North and East Africa, where our turbines will deliver reliable power to local telecommunications towers. These installations will not only enhance energy accessibility in remote areas but also solidify our turbines’ reputation for durability and reliability.

In addition to expanding our geographic reach, Kestrel Wind remains dedicated to innovation and research. Our team continuously strives to enhance the efficiency and durability of our turbines, ensuring they can withstand the most challenging environmental conditions while maximising energy output.

Thank you for being part of our journey. We invite you to join us again in 2026 as we continue to transform landscapes and lives, one gust of wind at a time.
