One of the most striking examples of Kestrel's capabilities is our turbines’ performance at Van Reenen’s Pass, a notoriously challenging location on the N3 highway between Durban and Johannesburg. This site is infamous for its severe weather, including snow, heavy rain, and winds exceeding 90 km/h.
Previous turbines installed here had a lifespan of just two weeks. Yet, when Kestrel installed our 400n turbine in December 2023, it not only survived but thrived, continuing to supply energy to this day. This success led to the purchase of an additional 20 units in April 2025 to be installed in Kenya this year, further solidifying Kestrel’s reputation for robustness.
The story doesn't end in South Africa. Kestrel's reach extends to Iceland, where the company Bláorka, known for its focus on renewable energy and power systems, has joined the Kestrel family. Iceland’s harsh climate, characterised by cold and blustery weather, demands technology that can withstand such conditions.
