5 Reasons Why You Should Choose Wind Power

12 May 2022

Climate change is a topic that everyone is tired of reading about but the reality is that global warming is negatively affecting our planet whether we are reading about it or not.

According to a paper published on Statistica.com, the Earth’s surface temperature is 0.98°C warmer than the recorded average taken in the 20th century with global temperatures reaching all-time records.

While this may not seem like a high increase, it is enough to cause disruption to the sea levels and contribute to the increasing number of weather catastrophes including storms, floods and droughts.

That being said, it is time to consider alternative energy sources to reduce the impact that energy generation has on the Earth. Kestrel offers a number of renewable energy solutions all driven by our ISO-certified micro-wind turbines.

Wind power is not only one of the cleanest forms of renewable energy alternatives it is also one of the most effective. Wind power can be extracted by stopping the wind. By extracting the power that wind exerts, our micro-wind turbines are able to create usable energy that is then stored in batteries.

Here is why you should choose wind power:

1. Wind Power is Cost-Effective

Renewable energy setups have high initial cost outlays but the benefits obtained from being able to step away from the grid while also helping to reduce the impact on the planet outweigh this initial cost.

However, of the renewable energy options available, wind turbines are among the easiest, fastest and most cost-effective to set up, especially if the wind is an abundant resource in your area. Kestrel’s micro-wind turbines are able to operate in wind speeds in excess of 200km/h which means that they are a highly viable renewable energy option.

2. Wind Power is a Clean Energy Source

Wind energy does not rely on fossil fuels to power the wind turbines, making wind energy one of the cleanest forms of renewable energy available. In fact, wind energy does not contribute to greenhouse gasses or emissions during the energy production process.

The only time that wind energy contributes to greenhouse gasses is during transportation, installation and manufacturing.

3. Wind Power is Inexhaustible

Wind turbines are able to run strictly on the power of the wind being generated which also means that wind power is inexhaustible, unlike the fossil fuels that the electrical grid relies on to power our homes and businesses.

In areas where the wind is in surplus, generation potential is only limited by how much you are able to store at a time. But, should your system be producing surplus energy, it can always be fed back into the grid system.

4. Wind Power is Non-Pollutant

Wind energy is non-pollutant unlike the burning of fossil fuels, like coal or natural gas, in power plants. The combustion process used to generate energy in power plants emits matter, nitrogen oxides, and sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere which impacts the health of the planet and of people in the surrounding areas.

Wind turbines, on the other hand, do not cause acid rain, smog or greenhouse gasses and rely only on the wind to generate clean energy.

5. Wind Power Can Use Existing Infrastructure

Rural areas where farmland is abundant create the perfect space for wind farms which do not affect the farming operations of the farmers in the area.

In the case of smaller-scale projects, like a single home or business, Kestrel’s micro wind turbines can be adjusted to work with existing infrastructure like a windmill. While Kestrel does offer turnkey solutions, we are also willing to adapt our product where possible to suit the individual needs of our customers.
