How you Can Get Involved in Earth Hour this Year

16 March 2022

Nature is essential to our existence on this planet which is why we need to do our very best to conserve the precious natural resources, animals and plant life that co-exists with us on this planet.

Unfortunately, our natural resources are been depleted faster than what they are able to replenish which is why we need to take the well-being of our planet into our own hands to ensure sustainability for future generations.

This year Earth Hour is observed on Saturday, 26 March from 20h30 to 21h30 – for this hour we are being asked to switch off our lights and appliances in shared recognition for the well-being of our planet.

But how else can you get involved for Earth Hour this year?

1. Share, Share, Share

The entire purpose of Earth Hour is to create awareness so the best way to get involved is to share; share your opinion, share information and share Earth Hour awareness.

Getting a message across is definitely easier now than it was in the past with social media making it so easy for one’s opinion to be heard. Sharing creates a ripple effect – if you share, someone else will share and soon hundreds of people will become aware!

Don’t be shy; stand up for your planet.

2. Change your Daily Routine

Earth Hour is not about conserving resources for one hour per year; it is about making a statement that we need to look for ways to save every day. This year, why not find something that you can change in your routine that allows you to save every day?

Whether you start to drive in a lift club to work, put a bucket in the shower or keep all unnecessary lights off in your home there are plenty of small ways that you can help make a difference.

If everyone does one small thing it can make a big difference.

3. Inspire Others

People react to others; once someone does something it spurs others into action. So share your journey on social media, start an Instagram or TikTok channel specific to your journey and let others learn from it.

If social media is not really your thing you can blog about your experience for others to read on the Internet or share with friends and family in an email chain.

4. Make a Night of it

Instead of just observing Earth Hour for one hour you can always make a night of it. Enjoy a candlelight dinner together with the family, sit outside and chat beneath the stars instead of watching TV or pick up a good book and read.

Especially if your neighbours are also switched off for Earth Hour, you will be amazed at how quiet the world is around you. Take the time to sit back, relax and enjoy the peace and quiet.

5. Simply Spend your Hour

Life is busy so if all you can manage to spare in your day is a single hour then do not feel guilty. Every small bit helps and contributes to the bigger picture. Remember: Earth Hour is symbolic so you can always look for ways to make a difference during the year if this specific day does not suit your schedule.

Sometimes showing dedication to the cause is enough.
