Kestrel moves to the windy city

Date: 1 October 2006

After residing in Gauteng for almost 20 years Kestrel Wind Turbines has relocated to Port Elizabeth, known as the Windy City of South Africa. The move is due to the growth of the business and its commitment to quality. By partnering with Eveready, with whom Kestrel now lives and operates, the company is able to fully develop the full axial flux discoid technology to its highest efficiency yet, as well as increasing production in order to better serve the small wind turbine market. It, somehow, seems appropriate that Kestrelís turbines now call the Windy City home.

Moving with the business, and now heading Research and Development full-time, is James Carpy, founder and inventor of Kestrel Wind Turbines, a Scottish expatriate who moved to South Africa in 1988 to develop small wind turbine technology. Up until September 2006, Kestrel was operating out of a factory in the industrial area of Jet Park, near the OR Tambo International Airport, Gauteng. Over this time Kestrel proudly contributed to the enlistment of the rural population of the country and grew in its ability to design and manufacture small wind turbines both for the local and export market.

Kestrelís wind turbines will now be produced in the Eveready (Pty) Ltd factory. It is a world class manufacturing set up and is ISO 9000, ISO 14000 and OHSAS 18001 certified. Like Kestrel, Eveready takes pride in manufacturing high quality products, making the partnership a valuable one based on shared goals and objectives. Evereadyís same passion and commitment that they have invested in batteries, now extends to renewable energy. Kestrel Wind Turbines has maintained its distribution network of key partners, but now with its growth in production is increasing this network in South Africa and SADC countries as well as around the world, including Hong Kong, France, US, the United Kingdom and India. All of the distributors and dealers of Kestrel machines are trained to support all the requirements of the customers.

The move has been the next step in the evolution of Kestrelís wind technology and will continue to pursue competitive costs, uncompromising quality and wider availability. And as production grows so too will development, with continuous advancements in the current product range as well as new products to meet the power requirements of future. Kestrel is committed to renewable power for life, and its move to Port Elizabeth advances the ability of the company to better serve the market. Situated on the main road and very accessible, you are welcome to make an appointment.
